If you have ever wondered how a water softener works, click the clink below. It is an article by Rohm and Haas a resin manufacturer, and they explain about Ion-exchange which is the principle behind water softening. In fact, did you know there really is no such thing as soft water?

It is a term that evolved from when pioneers trekked across the country and when they stopped and washed their clothes in lakes and rivers, if the soap didn’t lather up, and the clothes didn’t clean well, they said the water was hard to use. So the opposite of hard is soft, hence soft water. It really should be called an ion-exchange unit because we are exchanging calcium and magnesium, which are the ions that make up “hard water,” and exchange them for sodium. The system does that back and forth thousands of times.

The second link is another great article on the ion exchange process and presents several of the negative things that can happen to the resins, which shows the need for resin treatments which we perform on our services and which is available from us and shown on our website. We hope it helps you learn about how a water “softener” works. Remember if you need a great water softener or great service, give us a call at 801-796-0940.
